Whether you consider yourself to be a whisky novice or a connoisseur, owning a 50 yr old single malt is the ultimate status symbol. Getting a whisky to this age is always a big deal & official distillery bottlings will set you back many thousands of pounds in exchange for some impressively outlandish packaging. A handful of whisky fans have million dollar mansions to display those sprawling pieces of art. For the rest of us a pièce de résistance to fit that makeshift IKEA kallax whisky cabinet is often enough. This 50 yr old Glenlossie distilled in 1975 most certainly fits the bill.

Independent bottler Kingsbury Wine & Spirits Co. was founded in Aberdeen in 1989 and incorporated in 1992 by Katsuhiko Tanaka, president of Japanese importer Japan Import System Co. Ltd. If you’ve never heard of Kingsbury its because almost all their product get exported to Japan for a private clientele. In recent months a few of their elusive bottles have begun appearing at UK auction houses – an opportunity not to be missed. For a relatively tiny indy, Kingsbury somehow has access to some extremely rare casks. Some of their previous bottlings have been such unicorns that they didnt even bother putting this extraordinary 50 year old in a box!

Built in 1876, whisky produced by the powerhouse that is Glenlossie is a major contributor to Diageo’s blends. It is rarely seen as a single malt & there have not even been any ‘true’ official bottlings in 150 years – truly astonishing.   It’s four stills were increased to six in 1962 and since 1971 it has shared its site with Mannochmore.

Released as part of Kingsbury’s prestigious Celtic Series, this 1975 vintage represents a highly collectible half-century expression. The prolonged maturation capped off by a first-fill PX sherry finish imparts a profound depth, complexity, and distinct rich sweetness. Only 107 bottles made it out of cask 5959 at a strength of 45.6% abv. £500 cash alternative if you prefer.

There are also 80 instant win prizes for this competition including:
– 25 x Diageo Handfills tasting set
– 25 x Glenlossie dram duo’s
– 30 x £5 site credit

NB – A maximum of 2 handfill and/or 2 glenlossie tasting sets per account. Any extra wins shall be substituted with site credit
