About This Competition
The busy brewing town of Alloa was the perfect site for John Bald to erect a distillery, what with a direct access to nearby coal pits, grain and malt delivered via the Alloa Harbour, and access to water at the Gartmorn Dam. At the end of the 18th century, John Bald’s Carsebridge was considered one of the largest manufacturers of whisky in Scotland. By the late 1880s, Carsebridge covered 10 acres and had an output of between 1.4-1.7 million gallons. By the time it became part of Scottish Grain Distillers in 1966, it was one of the biggest grain distilleries in Scotland. Unfortunately like many other distilleries, the powers that be decided to mothball Carsebridge and consign it to the history books.
Thankfully some casks still remain. Bottled by the independent bottler Fragrant Drops, this 48 year old whisky from the now silent Carsebridge distillery is one of only 202 bottles produced. Fully matured in a single refill ex-bourbon cask no. 161077 it has been bottled at 45.3% ABV, with no chill filtration or added colouring.
It really is the perfect gift for any 1975 babies, and probably the only time most of us will get to savour a 48 yr old dram without selling an organ or two.
