Springbank Local Barley 2024

About This Competition

Springbank is back with another edition of its Local Barley series, this time with a 13 Year Old single malt using Belgravia barley from Glencraigs Farm on the Kintyre Peninsula. This expression was distilled in June 2010 and bottled in December 2023, with a total outturn of 8,400 bottles, bottled at 54.1% ABV. Matured in a mix of ex-sherry (40%) and ex-bourbon (60%) casks.

I had the pleasure of trying this a few weeks back & it was joint best dram of the night alongside the upcoming 12 yr cask strength. This years LB is quite citrus & fruit forward on the palate with a lovely fizzyness to kick off the party. Even a wee bit of smokiness at the start which gently fades into notes of nutmeg, pineapple and salted caramel. On first taste,  I’d say I’ve enjoyed this latest version a lot more than the previous 3 editions this decade- its a special one!
