About This Competition

We don’t do multi-bottle competitions very often but we simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pit the Worlds Best single malt against some of its (geographical) peers!

If you haven’t heard already – The English Sherry cask matured, from St. Georges Distillery in Norfolk,  has won the crown of Worlds Best single malt at the 2024 World Whiskies Awards. After a mere 17 years of distilling, there was finally just enough stock to add a sherry cask matured single cask whisky to the core range.  It was a milestone for the distillery made even more momentous with this award. Whilst it is a NAS release, the whisky has been fully matured in PX casks, resulting in a dram that’s thick with notes of crumbly biscuits, vanilla caramel, stewed berries and dried figs.

I thought it would make for a great competition if we threw in the latest limited editions from some of the other English competitors. The winner will also take home:

  • Filey Bay Porter Cask : Limited edition of 2000 bottles made from ex-PX & bourbon casks which also held Wold Top Brewery’s ‘Marmalade Porter’ for 14 months maturation & refilled with ex-bourbon whisky from 2018.
  • Cooper King Transatlantic : Limited edition of 1208 bottles & only the 3rd release from this distillery. Matured in a combination of Bordeaux wine and Kentucky bourbon casks as part of the distillery’s Expedition Series.
  • Cotswolds Hearts & Crafts :  Limited edition of 1500 bottles. Edition 5 of this annual release from England’s largest whiskymaker. Aged full-term in French oak casks seasoned with Pineau des Charentes. On the nose, the whisky is ‘rich and sweet’ with ‘fresh stone fruit’, followed by ‘summer berries, almond and woody spice’ on the palate.

The combined RRP of all four bottles is £320

But wait, that’s not all. Five lucky instant winners will also have the chance to win a duo of drams including the £185 Lakes Galaxia !!
