About This Competition
This was one of my favorite dram of 2023. Its also a bottle I have earmarked to be a future cult-favorite. This is the first batch of an annual release. However there are only 2500 bottles globally for this 1st batch. The spirit was matured in 3 American virgin oak casks and 5 Oloroso hogsheads over the course of 5 years.
At 71PPM this is the most heavily peated whisky from this distillery to be launched so far, however, even fans of unpeated whisky will appreciate this glorious dram. This turbo spirit cut has clearly seen some of the best of Billy Walker’s casks. The sherry is punchy and modern, but without any of the off notes of poor seasoned sherry casks. The virgin American oak gives a nice maturity beyond the 5 year age. This is the outcome of good spirit and good casks and I am sure it’s a great statement of what is to come from Glenallachie in the future, now that the quality of the spirit has been sorted out.
