Who dosen’t love a dram of Balvenie? If there was ever an award for the most congenial whisky out there – the Balvenie would most certainly win.

Our 2nd feature for Old (ish) October is an all time classic. The Founders Reserve became part of the Balvenie core lineup in the 1980’s, originally presented in a cognac style bottle until Balvenie arrived at their now familiar bottle silhouette. It was discontinued around 2009 and replaced by the Signature 12 year old. The Founders Reserve is comprised of spirit that has been matured for at least 10 years in ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks before being vatted together and then bottled at 40%.

Don’t be fooled by the low ABV. The 10 has a satisfyingly thick & viscous mouthfeel which you simply will never experience amongst modern day equivalents (im looking at you Macallan….) On the palate – a lovely balance of sweet & heat, honey & spice; leading to a complexity well beyond its years.

This, quite simply, is old school whisky done right and possibly impossible to reproduce. A piece of history is waiting for you. So get your ticket(s) asap!
