Part of the Secret Speyside Collection developed by Chivas, this 24 year-old Miltonduff single malt has been matured in hogshead and first fill American oak barrels, bottled at cask strength and without chill-filtration. Tasting notes of ripe juicy pear are intermingled with flavour notes of orange zest and a subtle aroma of elderflower. Sweet flavour notes intensify on the palate with hints of caramel and fresh blueberries coming through, resulting in long-lasting finish with a subtle cinnamon spice.
Miltonduff sits in the Glen of Pluscarden a few miles south-west of Elgin, on the site of an old meal mill that once belonged to the Benedictine monks of Pluscarden Abbey, and for two centuries it has been quietly doing the least glamorous, most important job in Scotch: making beautifully clean spirit for blends.
Because Chivas Brothers has little use for Miltonduff as a stand-alone brand, the independent sector has effectively been its shop window for decades. Other than a limited edition 18-year-old cask strength bottling, no other official releases have been made, making this bottle a rare instance of OB miltonduff.
