About This Competition

October has seen the launch of two brand new Chichibu’s on British shores. The winner of this competition gets to choose which one they would like – in other words, a Whichibu comp .

Moving past the cheesy wordplay, we have 2 exceptional releases from Chichibu distillery in Japan. First up, is the Chichibu 10 year old. The oldest age-statement from the distillery & being released for only the 2nd time. This is a significant milestone for the distillery given that most of their highly prized single cask releases tend to be much younger.  Primarily ex-bourbon aged, the 10 showcases Chichibu’s signature fruit-forward style, the palate delivers textured notes of orange peel, peach, red currant, white pepper, and roasted malt. The last release got voted “Best Japanese Single Malt” at the World Whiskies Awards 2021, so expectations are high this time around.  Only 4956 bottles available globally.

Next up is the annual Chichibu London Edition. The 2025 release is the 8th edition in the London series and is a  vatting of ten casks, matured in ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, including 2 heavily peated casks. The bottle features a unique glow-in-the-dark label designed by Raj Chavda & is the 2nd of Musha-e sub-collection within the series. Only 1920 bottles exist.

So which one would you go for?
