About This Competition
Another milestone for M&C Comps – our very first prize from a SILENT distillery!
Back in the day there were whispers that Littlemill was the oldest distillery in Scotland, and possibly even the oldest in the world. Although it is very hard to accurately verify dates of establishment in the 18th century, most evidence points to the distillery being officially founded in 1772 by George Buchanan of Glasgow. Littlemill distillery closed in 1997 and following a fire in 2004, the remains of the distillery were demolished in 2005.
Littlemill was always a somewhat frustrating single malt. It was apparently relegated to the status of Third Class malt by DCL in the 1950s and bottlings, both official and independent, have swung wildly from the immature (sadly, mostly the own bottlings) to truly excellent (independent bottlings) where the distillery’s soft centred sweetness expresses itself fully.
The official range of Littlemill bottlings included a 5 year old, 8 year old, 12 year old, 20 year old and 21 year old. Here you have a chance at winning the 12 year old. Would I drink it? No, it probably tastes awful. Would I want this for my collection? Abso-frickin-lutely
It is estimated that there are fewer than 5000 casks of Littlemill left in bond. It may sound like a lot, but it really isn’t. It’s firmly investment grade material and certainly a piece of history for the decades to come.
There are 10 early bird bonus tickets up for grabs. Simply add a minimum of 2 Littlemill tickets to your cart & use code SILENTSTILL at checkout.
**Lot Condition Note – Due to the age of this bottling there is some rusting to the inside of the tube and minor peeling to the upper labelÂ
