About This Competition

Its another retro feature for Old (ish) October. This time we head over to the Isle of Mull and the sputtering outpost that is the Tobermory distillery.

Tobermory Distillery is one of the oldest operational Scotch Whisky distilleries and celebrated its 200th Anniversary in 1998. The distillery was inoperational between 1837 and 1878. The distillery shut down again in 1928 and didn’t reopen until 1972, this time as the Ledaig Distillery (Tobermory) Ltd. However in 1975 the receivers where called in and the distillery mothballed. In 1990 the distillery resumed production, this time called Tobermory. In 1993 Burn Stewart, who’s other distilleries at the time included Bunnahabhain and Deanston, acquired the distillery, with the entire portfolio eventually being taken over by the Distell Group.

This is an older presentation  of Tobermory’s 10 yr old single malt from the Burn Stewart days. The 10 yr old was discontinued in 2019 after a brief re-brand when Distell took over.

This is a light coastal maritime whisky. Harking back to older practices, it is one of the last examples of a screen printed scotch bottle. I imagine this stubby green boy will be an unusual addition to most people’s collections.
