About This Competition
Hard to believe its taken me this long to list an Indian whisky on the site, but no better occasion than to mark India’s 76th independence day on August 15th. While Amrut was the first Indian single malt producer, competitors Paul John have a much wider range and have helped cement India’s place amongst the whisky producing nations.
Here we have an unpeated whisky single cask produced using Himalayan barley, aged in bourbon cask 1906. Their whisky distillery is located in the coastal state of Goa, where the angel’s share is around 10% (compared to Scotland’s 1.5% or so). There’s no surprise this cask filled just 210 bottles. Notes include a citrusy nose of lime peel & orange blossom, alongside a palate of sweet Nice biscuits, barley sugar & cocoa.
