About This Competition

This competition has us swerving away from the new releases to one of the lost legends – the Old Pulteney 17.

Judged by our pal Ralfy as his whisky of the year in 2015, this misty malt was once widely available across the land before its cull in early 2018 to make way for the new OP core range. The 17 Year Old predominantly featured ex-bourbon maturation, with the addition of spirit matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. Lovely sweet aromas of butterscotch, honey and chocolate, with some faint salt and oak spice on the palate.

Originally retailing under a £100, the OP17 offered tremendous value for money in its day. These days you’d be lucky to snag one for below £200 at auction, and because these bottles are generally purchased for consumption, we are seeing fewer of em popping up every round.
