One of the most anticipated releases of 2021 from Japan’s craft whisky scene!  From Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima: their first ever single malt Japanese whisky.

Kanosuke Distillery has rapidly emerged as one of the most promising new Japanese whisky distilleries. Founded by Komasa Jyozo who are already well-known within Japan for their shochu, the distillery has been rolling out new make since Feb 2018.  Single Malt Kanosuke 2021 First Edition uses primarily ex-shochu casks, American oak, that previously held Mellowed Kozuru. Given the level of maturity seen with the distillery’s new borns despite their young age, there’s a lot of anticipation that this 3-year whisky will deliver an experience similar to what you’d expect from a significantly more mature whisky.

Unlike most Japanese craft distilleries, the Kanosuke distillery has acquired not two, but three traditional pot stills, each with a different shape and neck inclination. This diversity allows for the production of whiskies with varied profiles and rich, aromatic character. In addition to its three traditional pot stills, the distillery has equipped itself with state-of-the-art technology. With the know-how inherited from shochu making, it has seen its first creations awarded at the World Whiskies Awards 2019 and 2020.
