Winner gets to choose between 2 limited edition Dalwhinnie’s – will it be a historic release? or a ‘for employees only’ limited release ?
First up is the Manager’s Dram from 2009. The Manager’s Dram was chosen annually in competition from distiller managers across the United Distillers (now Diageo) portfolio. A blind nosing would eventually determine the overall winner from over 100 of the finest whiskies. I’m not sure how much of the “tradition” still exists when selecting, but this annual series has continued since 1980. These bottles are only made available to Diageo employees & cannot be purchased directly by the public. In 2009, a 12 year old from Dalwhinnie from selected for the series.
Next up is the Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition. This is flagship 15 yr old Dalwhinnie that has been finished in Oloroso. Also an annual release (up until last year when Diageo has decided to do away with vintage dates), this line has been hitting shelves since 1995. This is the very first 1st inaugural distiller’s edition with whisky produced in 1980.
