Bonnington Inaugural

About This Competition

The inaugural release from Edinburgh’s (Leith specifically)  Bonnington distillery, this whisky has been matured within a single Ruby Port cask, before being bottled at 52.3% abv. Distilled in March 2020 and bottled in October 2023, all 500 bottles of this super-limited release are hand-signed by Distillery Manager, Jamie Lockhart.

The distillery project was delayed by almost a year, largely due to significant archaeological finds at the site including evidence of a previous distillery dating back to the 1700s, furnaces from a bronze foundry, a ‘lost mansion’ named Bonnington House and even evidence of ‘The Siege of Leith’ from the sixteenth century.

Expect aromas of sweet dessert wine, dried fruits, rich oak and subtle citrus, which lead onto a palate full of sweet malt, poached pears, creamy berries, caramel and candied ginger. A long, sweet finish carries hints of gentle spice from the cask.
