About This Competition
Ballindalloch is hailed as Scotland’s first single estate distillery, and the only one to operate within a castle’s grounds. Ballindalloch castle itself was built in 1546 and has been home to the Macpherson-Grants ever since, who leased part of the Ballindalloch estate to distiller John Smith to build Cragganmore Distillery in 1869. Come 2011, Guy Macpherson-Grant, 23rd generation of his family and current occupier of Ballindalloch Castle, began construction of a whisky distillery in a 19th century farm steading.
The Seven Springs Collection is a tribute to the seven Garline Springs that feed the distillery and celebrates the family’s return to distilling on the Ballindalloch Estate. Unlike most new distilleries which choose to release their inaugural whisky at 3 years & cover up imperfections with the use of sherry casks, Ballindaloch’s Edition No.1 has been aged for 7 years in first fill bourbon casks. The result is an impressive first release- sweetly rounded with notes of whipped cream, toffee and poached orchard fruits.
Only 1200 bottles exist. In May this year, this whisky won double gold at the prestigious San Francisco Spirit Awards.
