About This Competition
We love a good ‘Winners Choice’ competition here at M&C Comps. This might be our most epic one yet!
We have had a few super-aged whiskies on the site before but these have been blends or from grain distilleries. Never before have we had a single malt this old. No, its not a typo, up for grabs is this 52 year old Ben Nevis distilled in 1973. This spirit is a testament to the many people who stewarded it across eras. It was distilled under the Hobbs family, slumbered through the Whitbread / Long John period, and was safeguarded for decades by Nikka, under the watchful eye of the late Colin Ross. It has never left the Highlands, resting first at its birthplace in Fort William and later under the care of the erudite Thompson Brothers at Dornoch.
What’s the catch here? Well, some people have pointed out that this is a vatting of 2 refill hogsheads and the low abv of 40.1% . Certainly valid criticisms – Do I care? Not really. Sure, I would have loved it if this had a higher alcohol content but we are looking at over half a century of evaporation here. This is bucket list stuff, the fact that you are the owner of a 52 yr old single malt or getting to sample something from this era should easily dwarf any minor grumbles about ABV.
Nevertheless, if this is a dealbreaker for you then fear not ! Because you can still choose to take home £625 in cold hard cash instead (in case your wondering, that is the ex-VAT price of the bottle).
We have also got 80 instant wins including 5 framed pieces of original artwork which provides the background to our competition poster. Created by graphic artist & local whisky legend NifNof , this Running Man inspired dystopian cityscape offers the perfect juxtaposition to an old school collectible Ben Nevis.
NOTE: Maximum of 1 framed print can be won per account & household. If multiple prints won these will be re-allocated to an unsold ticket number.
