About This Competition
West Midlands Distillery, established in 2017 by a family of distillers, has evolved from producing premium white spirits to crafting the first single malt whisky ever released from the West Midlands. Their debut range reflects a strong commitment to tradition, quality, and regional identity, with each hand-painted bottle housed in a bespoke box featuring a detailed map of the Black Country and Birmingham.
Only 900 inaugural bottles exist but interestingly this is made up of 5 different types of whisky :
🔹1st fill Bourbon Cask (205 bottles)
🔹Caribbean Rum Cask (255 bottles)
🔹Bourbon Quarter Cask (131 bottles)
🔹Oloroso Quarter Cask (106 bottles)
🔹The Matriarch blend (174 bottles)
This competition is for the Bourbon Quarter Cask – the 2nd most limited bottle type in the series. The cask was re-coopered from a first-fill American Standard Barrel down to 125L in capacity, then re-charred to increase the richness and cask extraction. It’s a bold, spicy dram with flashes of toasted oak and distant smoke.
