Two fabulous new releases – which one would you choose?

First up – the latest from The Lakes Distillery in England. The Lakes Signature is their very first flagship core range whisky. Until now, it’s all been limited editions and ever-evolving releases, but this is different. Roots are being put down. Central to Signature’s creation is the distillery’s élevage process, a technique more common in wine and Cognac. Rather than casking and waiting, élevage takes a more hands-on approach to maturation. By actively moving spirit between casks, adjusting climate and location, and layering flavour intentionally, the whisky evolves in complexity and texture.

If that sounds a bit meh….perhaps you’d prefer the 2025 edition of Loch Gorm by Kilchoman? Also a significant milestone as the distillery’s first aged statement release in this revered series. Loch Gorm is exclusively matured in oloroso sherry casks from the renowned bodega, Jose Miguel Martin. These casks impart a combination of heavy sherry notes, spicy dark chocolate, rich fruits and burnt sugar, which balances beautifully with the Kilchoman peat smoke and citrus fruits.
