’95 Malt or ’72 Grain?

Its time for another edition of Malt or Grain…. or at least I think we have run this type of comp before….Either way, a worthy quandary this be.

First up we have the latest stupendous value dram from Signatory – a 30 yr old single cask Glenrothes from 1995, aged in a single first-fill Oloroso sherry butt. With a dusky hue quite appropriate for its age, this one shall no doubt be a furtive temptation for the sherry bombers.

The contender is a dignified & luscious 52 yr old blended grain. Whilst the origins are not known the sales folk tell us it’s like “drinking a coconut full of rum inside the mind of a sentient pineapple that’s learned how to operate heavy machinery and has since unionised with the other tropical fruits and is now causing headaches for the Labour government”. That clever word play alone pips it for me BUT which one tickles your fancy?

Winner gets to choose & as always, I would very much appreciate receiving a dram if/when the cork gets popped.
